Rotary Club of Msasa Celebrates Birthday
Celebrating 29 Years of Service
On the 29th of August, the Rotary Club of Msasa celebrated its 29th birthday, marking a significant milestone of dedicated service to the Zimbabwe community, District 9210 and the world over. Since its charter, Rotary Club of Msasa has worked to improve lives through meaningful and impactful projects. As we reflect on nearly three decades of service, we are proud to share some of our key achievements across Rotary’s areas of focus, demonstrating our commitment to creating lasting positive change.

Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution
Our club has always been committed to promoting peace and understanding. Over the years, we have partnered with other Rotary Clubs to support the Rotary Peace Fellowships, designed to provide academic training, practice, and global networking opportunities for peace and development professionals to become effective catalysts for peace. We have also supported youth exchange programs, fostering cross-cultural understanding and helping to develop the next generation of global leaders.
Disease Prevention and Treatment
Health has been a major focus of our service projects. One of our most notable achievements has been our support of the global fight against polio. Through fundraising and awareness campaigns, we have contributed to the near-eradication of this crippling disease worldwide. On a local level, our club has embarked on significant health-related projects such as provision of health equipment, refurbishment of a health clinic, organizing health screening and free medical clinics to serve those in need.

Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene
Access to clean water is a fundamental human right, and over the years, our club has made a significant impact by supporting water and sanitation projects such as drilling boreholes and refurbishment of water tanks. From installing clean water supply in remote parts of Zimbabwe to promoting hygiene education in schools, our efforts have helped to provide safe drinking water to hundreds of families and reduce waterborne diseases in underserved communities.

Maternal and Child Health
Ensuring that mothers and children have access to proper healthcare is one of the most powerful ways to break the cycle of poverty. The goals for maternal and child health are 1) reduce mortality and morbidity rate for children under 5 years, 2) reduce maternal mortality and morbidity rate, 3) improve access to essential medical services, trained community health leaders, and health care providers for mothers and their children, and 4) support studies for career-minded professionals related to maternal and child health. To this end, the Rotary Club of Msasa has supported the refurbishment of a health clinic that provides prenatal and postnatal care services for mothers and children. Additionally, we’ve donated medical supplies, supported vaccination drives, and sponsored nutrition programs for children.
Education and Literacy
Education is key to a brighter future, and we believe that every child should have access to quality education. Over the past years, we have partnered with other Rotary Clubs, NGOs and local organizations to construct classroom blocks and to renovate school facilities. This has been achieved through partnership with other global Rotary Clubs in global grants. The Rotary Club of Msasa has supported education and literacy through provision of learning materials to students in schools such as Mapere Primary School, Mwenje Secondary School, Howard High School, Chaddesley Primary
School, Marinda School, Nyaya School etc. Such initiatives have reinforced Rotary International’s goal of strengthening the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy for all children, reducing gender disparity in education, and increasing adult literacy.
Economic and Community Development
Helping individuals and communities build sustainable livelihoods has always been at the heart of our club’s work. Whether through supporting vocational training for job seekers, or community development projects that improve local infrastructure and capacity, we’ve helped to empower individuals to improve their economic circumstances and build stronger, more resilient communities. For example, our club supported initiatives such as Mubatirapamwe Trust, a local organization fighting against drug, alcohol and substance abuse, Kuchengetana Trust Relief kitchen in Chitungwiza, providing meals to vulnerable members of the local community. Other ways we have supported the goal of growing local economies is through members of Rotary Club of Msasa volunteering their time to provide training such a financial literacy, with the overall aim of creating opportunities to help individuals and communities thrive financially and socially.
Protecting the environment
The Rotary Club of Msasa is committed to supporting activities that strengthen the conservation and protection of natural resources, advance ecological sustainability, and foster harmony between communities and the environment. Through the support of Rotary Foundation, the Rotary Club of Msasa considers the elements of environmental sustainability in its applications for global grants. We aim to conduct high impact projects that utilize sustainably sourced resources and innovative process that address the causes and reduce the effects of climate change and environmental degradation.
Looking Ahead
As we celebrate 29 years of service, we are excited about the future. Our commitment to making the world a better place is stronger than ever. We remain focused on continuing our work across Rotary’s areas of focus, addressing the most pressing challenges facing our community and the world. The need for service is ever-growing, and with the support of our dedicated members, community partners, District 9210 and Rotarians the world over, we are looking forward to another ready to another year of service, fellowship, and spreading the Magic of Rotary!
