On 3 September 2024, the Rotary club of Msasa, other Clubs and partners travelled to Mudzi for a Malaria Partners initiative. Malaria Partners Zimbabwe led the delegation.

Malaria Partners Zimbabwe (MPZim) is an affiliate of Malaria Partners International (MPI), established to focus on the fight against malaria specifically within Zimbabwe.

MPZim was founded with the mission to catalyze a global Rotarian campaign for malaria eradication. It aims to respond to the increasing number of malaria cases in Zimbabwe and aligns with broader
efforts to combat the disease.

During the visit, the partners managed to interact with the community and made some donations. The community and health workers reciprocated by delivering a drama that highlighted some touchpoints and on their experiences in the community when they are delivering services to combat malaria. The drama also illustrated how the society is acts and reacts to the diesease. MPZim was officially chartered at the All-Africa Zone Institute in September 2023. The board is led by Rotarian Sam Chikowore, and includes members from various Rotary clubs, each bringing unique skills and passion to the fight against malaria.

One of MPZim’s goals is to have Zimbabwe declared malaria-free within the next ten years. As part of its strategy, MPZim is focusing on local interventions, including a large-scale project in Mudzi District, Mashonaland East Province, in partnership with The Methodist Church in Zimbabwe.

Collaborative Efforts: MPZim works within the context of regional initiatives, being a member of the Elimination 8, a collaborative effort to reduce malaria in Africa. This involvement underscores Zimbabwe’s commitment to aligning with continental efforts for malaria elimination.

Through strategic collaborations and community engagement, MPZim is working towards reducing malaria incidence and mortality rates in Zimbabwe, contributing to MPI’s broader mission to ignite an international Rotarian campaign to end malaria.

These details illustrate MPZim’s role and activities within the larger framework of global malaria eradication efforts, specifically tailored to the needs and conditions in Zimbabwe.
